Hiring window cleaners? Here’s all you need to know

Hiring window cleaners is a straight forward job right? Hire cleaners, get your windows cleaned and that’s it. Well, it turns out it isn’t. If you’ve hired windows cleaners before you’d realize that there is much more to window cleaning then what we think. There are several different services a typical window cleaner will offer, and it good to know what they are and how you might need some of them.
Most people just think that when you hire a window cleaner, he/she is just supposed to come, wash your windows, wipe em’ and then go. But when it comes to making your windows look crystal clear, it might get much more complicated and expensive than just a simple window washing job.
Here a few things you need to know and a few tricks for you to get the best-looking windows while making sure it’s not too hard on your pocket.

Get both sides of the window cleaned

It’s a common misconception that if we don’t ask the cleaners to clean the inside we will have to pay half the price. But the thing is, window cleaners are not stupid, for cleaning just the outside, most of them nowadays charge you 70% of what it costs to clean inside and out, as the majority of the work is outside. So you won’t be saving much to begin with. Plus no matter how clean your windows are from the outside, they still won’t look nice if they are dirty from the inside. And they might look streaky if an amateur like you, tries to clean them with the wrong equipment.

Always get your screens cleaned

“I’m getting my windows cleaned, why would I get my screens cleaned?”. The problem with screens is that they are always dirtier compared to your windows and they will get dirt on your windows, especially if it rains. Most cleaners don’t even give you the option nowadays to choose screen cleaning, they just do it and add that to the total cost. Because most people don’t want their screens cleaned and then later are unsatisfied with the result. If your cleaner is asking you whether you want your screens cleaned then the only right answer is yes!

Solar panels

If you have solar panels installed. Know that their efficiency is dependent on how clean they are. Most window cleaners offer services like solar panel cleaning. If you think it’s been a while since they were installed or cleaned and there is visible dirt on them then cleaning will definitely improve their efficiency.

Make sure they wipe the tracks and sills

Some window cleaners might try to ask you for extra cash just to clean your tracks and sills. Don’t pay them for that as they normally aren’t that dirty and they wipe them down anyway because they get wet from all the cleaning.
Although you might want to check your tracks before you say no. Sometimes tracks really are dirty and need more than just a simple wipe down. In that case, just make sure they are not charging you too much for the tracks. Typically, depending on the condition of your tracks and the number of windows. 40 to 50 dollars other than the window cleaning charges is enough for all the tracks and sills in your house.

Hard water damage

Have you ever seen those tough white watermarks on your bathroom mirror or windows close to sprinklers? That’s when water often hits the glass and dries. The different mineral in water end up accumulating and these minerals are impossible to remove. You need special chemicals to remove these and these chemicals are really hazardous and can cause serious damage to your windows or surrounding areas or even you. Ask if your cleaners offer these services and get it done by them, it might be expensive but it’s worth it.
